WHEN LOVE IS MISSING
For
God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so
that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish
(come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
This is a very popular scripture
that we all know. After Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit and disobeyed God,
God got angry and punished them by cursing them and sending them out of the
Garden of Eden. On a second thought, God felt it will be too harsh of Him to
send His children out without forgiving them… Because of this love, He (God)
sent His only Begotten Son “Jesus Christ” to this world to die and cleanse us from all our sins and iniquities.
Now,
think about this, what do you think will be the fate of you and I in this world
today if God did not show His love to us by sending His son Jesus Christ?
Nigeria,
my great country…The lion of Africa moved me to write this article; it’s a
great pity that LOVE is missing in our own dear country. I understand that some
other countries in the world are faced with similar or more problems but am
more interested in Nigeria because this is my HOME…
It’s
a pity we live in a country where love is not shown. People feel so insecure
and do not trust one another. A country where people kill one another for a
useless cause; it is saddening to know that Nigeria, one of the most religious
country in Africa is lacking love.
Even
in churches and mosques where we believe love is meant to abound, we find there
"envy and hypocrisy". Founders of churches envy themselves because of the total
number of their congregation.
The
outcome of the missing love is what we are experiencing and seeing today… When
will this stop?
Walking
in love with God and the people that surrounds you is a way out. We
know that evil cannot be totally eradicated in our society because we have
people whose thoughts and intentions are purely evil and we already know where
they (these set of people) belong...But doing good can overcome evil. Love conquers all
Luke
6:35 But love your enemies and be kind and do good [doing favors so that
someone derives benefit from them] and lend, expecting and hoping for
nothing in return but considering nothing as lost and despairing of no one; and
then your recompense (your reward) will be great (rich, strong, intense, and
abundant), and you will be sons of the Most High, for He is kind and charitable
and good to the ungrateful and the selfish and wicked.
If
we can express/show true love to one another things will get better… it is lack
of love that makes a leader to embezzle money without considering his
followers. Lack of love makes a leader ignore his duties and concentrate on
less important things…remember a selfish heart is a heart without love.
Look
around you today, you see under aged children and teenagers selling items in
traffic to meet their needs, you see children malnourished and hungry in many
of our streets…some kids do not have clothes to wear and some of us have a
wardrobe full of clothes we don’t wear…We know of some rich people in our
nation who can afford to send over ten (10) children to school without feeling
the cost but they won’t just do it… when will all this end? When exactly will
love be found and cherished.
John
15:12-13 This is My commandment: that you love one another [just] as I
have loved you. No one has greater love [no one has shown stronger affection]
than to lay down (give up) his own life for his friends.
Love
is meek, love is patient, love changes, love endures and it thinks no wrong.
Love is the best thing that can transform and overwhelms a man’s heart. Imagine
the love of a mother towards her unborn child, even though she hasn’t seen the
child, she loves and cares for the child.
We
need to change our mindset, we need to flush out the hatred in our hearts and
fill it with love. Until we start making sacrifices for our fellow men, until
we start going extra miles for people around us…until then have we found love…
Mark 12:31 You shall love your
neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.
Many
Christians today claim they love God. They say they can go extra miles for God
yet they can’t sacrifice a bowl of garri for their hungry neighbor. You do not
love God; if you love God you will be willing to do more for people around you.
John 13:34-35 I give you a new
commandment: that you should love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you
too should love one another. By this shall all [men] know that you are
My disciples, if you love one another [if you keep on showing love among
yourselves].
Don’t
let us deceive ourselves, we are all guilty of this…we have all being selfish
at some points…let us make amends.
Let
us love one another with brotherly affection [as
members of one family], giving precedence and showing honor to one another.
[Let our] love be sincere (a real thing); hate what is evil [loathe
all ungodliness, turn in horror from wickedness], but hold fast to that
which is good.
