TEMPTATION

Temptation is defined as the desire to do or have something that you know is bad or wrong.
We all have been tempted in one way or the other, when we have a strong desire to do something that we know is wrong, we should realize at that point that we are being tempted.
Temptation can come in form of money, cars, clothes, material items, sexual desires or urge/longing for things that are not right.
Many of our youths today tend to walk into temptations, they intentionally do things that are wrong and make it seem right. This has gone a long way in affecting the lives of many youths today.
Recall the story of Joseph in Genesis 39: 6b-9: now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. And it came to pass after these things that his master’s wife cast longing eyes on Joseph and she said “Lie with me”. But he refused and said to his master’s wife “look, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all he has to my hands. There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you because you are his wife, how can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?
That’s a short story about Joseph the son of Jacob in the Bible, how he faced and overcame sexual temptations. How many of Joseph’s kind, do we have today?
Temptations can come in diverse forms, temptation among peer group, temptation in the family, among friends and colleagues; unthinkable things can serve as temptations to different people.
The Bible says that we cannot be tempted more than our ability (measure); God always provides an escape route. Have we ever taken time to find an escape route when temptation comes.

Overcoming temptations takes us to another higher level. For instance, a young man who is tempted to forge his boss signature to steal the company’s money will end up being destroyed in his career if he allows the temptation to overcome him but if he overcomes the temptation, it is possible that his promotion comes immediately afterwards. overcoming Temptation starts from the mind. when the temptation comes, we can fight it by doing away with the thoughts....
Imagine if Joseph the dreamer had agreed to lay with his boss’s wife, his dreams will have been shattered in five minutes of sexual pleasure.
I understand that some life situation can push us to fall into temptations by taking wrong decisions and steps but let us all learn to always look for an escape route when the temptation arises.
A young guy who wants to be successful can start with something small instead of joining his friends to steal other people’s hard earned money. A young lady who needs to pay her fees can get a cleaning job or menial job (escape route) instead of sleeping with someone who is old enough to be her father (temptation).

I urge you to always remember that for every temptation or trial there is always an escape route. Though sometimes an escape route may seem like suffering or pain to you but remember at the end of every suffering comes pleasure and everlasting joy. So endure. My prayer is that God will always be with us to help us flee from very temptation.
